Vilad’s heart hummed with affection as he turned her in his arms to place a kiss to her forehead once his brothers finished with her hair.

“You are the most beautiful creature I have ever beheld, little girl,” he said, “and it would be my honor to escort you to dinner.” He turned and stuck out his elbow, smiling when she grasped his arm. Peering down at her, he flexed his muscle in her grip and waggled his eyebrows at her, causing her to giggle.

Torin, the most serious of all his brothers, snorted at his display of playfulness, but Vilad ignored him as he led Kenna out into the corridor toward the dining hall. They entered the large room just as Zane added a steaming plate of marinated Khanndoran vegetables to the table, fresh from the food replicator. The table was set and over a dozen platters of various foods, most from his home planet but a few, like the cheeseburgers, were definitely from Earth. Vilad nodded his approval to Zane for having thoughtfully prepared foods that Kenna would enjoy.

“Wow, that’s a lot of food,” Kenna said as he helped her into a seat. She peered at the table with wide eyes as if overwhelmed and unsure of what to try first. Then she flushed and squirmed in her seat.
